As one of Australia’s most culturally diverse States, Western Australia is home to the rich Indigenous cultures of our First Peoples as well as to migrant communities from all corners of the globe who have brought us their skills, initiative and wisdom.
WA’s society is made up of people from more than 200 countries, speaking more than 270 languages and dialects, and practising more than 130 religious faiths. In embracing our cultural diversity we have forged the foundations of a socially cohesive society where every one of us has a role to play.
Across generations of migrants, those who are well established help support more recent arrivals in creating happy, healthy and safe communities who engage fully in the economic and cultural life of this State.
WA’s thriving multicultural society is one of our greatest assets and strengths.
I believe it is the role of government to exercise good leadership and assist everyone to make a full contribution to society.
In my role as Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests, one of my priorities is to engage with WA’s diverse communities and assist them to achieve their highest potential in contributing to WA’s development.
I look forward to working with you all.
Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Citizenship and Multicultural Interests
